Fatliquor for Pickle, Tanning & Main Fatliquoring

GREIBOSOL SFL

GREIBOSOL SFL is a versatile, electrolyte-stable multistage fatliquor specifically developed for use across all production stages, from pickle and chrome tanning through pre-fatliquoring, retanning, and main fatliquoring. Its outstanding electrolyte stability enables reliable performance under the highly acidic and salt-rich conditions of the pickle and tanning bath, making it one of the most flexible fatliquoring agents available for the production of soft leathers of the highest quality.

GREIBOSOL SFL is the ideal product for soft upper leathers, nappa for boots, all types of soft shoe leathers, upholstery leather, and automotive upholstery, where consistent softness, good physical properties, and reliable dyeing uniformity across the full hide are essential requirements.

The multistage approach enabled by GREIBOSOL SFL allows the total fatliquor offer to be distributed in small quantities across the entire production process, from pickle to main fatliquoring, resulting in a more even and thorough lubrication of the collagen fibre structure at every stage. This produces consistently softer, more uniform leathers with superior physical properties compared to single-stage fatliquoring processes.

GREIBOSOL SFL delivers excellent light fastness and heat resistance, making it suitable for the most demanding applications including automotive upholstery leathers, where prolonged exposure to heat and UV light are critical performance criteria. Its high electrolyte stability also makes it the preferred fatliquor for vegetable-tanned leathers and for compact retanning processes.

GREIBOSOL SFL can be diluted in water at 60°C whilst stirring to form a fine dispersed emulsion, or added undiluted directly to the float.

Application Examples

Use in Pickle and Chrome Tanning

An initial application of 1.5 to 3% GREIBOSOL SFL in the pickle, optionally combined with 0.2 to 0.5% GREIBOPOL STE (based on pelt weight), delivers a series of important process benefits. It improves the softness of the leathers and preserves the natural physical properties of the hide. It promotes better distribution of the tanning agent across the individual hide areas and supports more uniform dyeing results. It reduces friction between hides in the drum, particularly under short liquor and high drum load conditions, providing a protective sliding effect that minimises mechanical damage to the grain surface. Leathers pre-fatliquored in the pickle also show better fatliquor uptake in subsequent stages and a fuller, rounder handle in the finished leather. Please note: pre-fatliquoring in the pickle is suitable for all leather types with the exception of white and pastel leathers.

Use as Intermediate Fatliquor in Retanning

At 3 to 4% on shaved weight, GREIBOSOL SFL can be used as an intermediate fatliquor in both cationic retanning prior to neutralization, such as rechroming, and in anionic synthetic or vegetable retanning processes. For best results, GREIBOSOL SFL should be pre-run for approximately 10 to 20 minutes prior to the addition of the retanning agents to ensure optimal distribution throughout the hide. Its use in the retanning stage guarantees a more consistent distribution of the retanning agent across the hide cross-section and contributes to a smoother, more uniform grain in the finished leather.

Use as Main Fatliquor

As a main fatliquoring agent, GREIBOSOL SFL delivers outstanding softness, uniform fat distribution, and consistent physical properties across the full hide. Its high electrolyte stability makes it equally suitable for compact retanning processes and for fatliquoring of vegetable-tanned leathers, where stability in salt and acid-rich conditions is critical.
