Cationic fatliquoring agent for leathers

GREIBOSOL KOS

GREIBOSOL KOS is a cationic fatliquoring agent based on a combination of natural and synthetic fatty substances, sulphonated and supplied as a white emulsion at an active substance concentration of approximately 60%. As the only cationic fatliquor in the GREIBOSOL range, it occupies a unique position, delivering performance benefits that no anionic fatliquor can replicate, particularly in the areas of dyeing brilliance, grain elasticity, and surface quality control.

The cationic charge of GREIBOSOL KOS enables it to interact directly with the anionic sites of the leather substrate, reducing the surface cationicity of chrome-tanned leather and facilitating improved uptake and penetration of anionic dyes throughout the fibre structure. This results in more intense, brilliant, and level colour results that distinguish premium quality leather articles in fashion, upholstery, and footwear applications.

Due to its excellent chrome stability, GREIBOSOL KOS can be applied directly in the chrome tannage, where it simultaneously improves the softness and dyeing properties of glove leather — an application where the combination of softness and colour quality in a single process step is particularly valuable. When used in the retanning of suede and upper leathers with mineral tanning agents, GREIBOSOL KOS improves both the dyeing result and the grain elasticity of the finished leather.

In sandwich dyeing, GREIBOSOL KOS is applied between two dyeing stages, where its cationic character significantly enhances the brilliance and depth of the final shade. In paste dyeing applications, GREIBOSOL KOS prevents the bonding agent from entering the grain layer, protecting the natural grain surface quality and ensuring reliable adhesion of the finish.

Please note: GREIBOSOL KOS is not stable in vegetable tanning baths and should not be used in these applications. It demonstrates excellent stability in mineral tanning baths. The product is diluted by stirring water at 60°C into the product.

Application Examples

GREIBOSOL KOS is the preferred cationic fatliquor wherever the unique combination of softness improvement, enhanced dyeing brilliance, grain elasticity, and surface quality control that only a cationic fatliquor can deliver are required.

In chrome tannage for glove leather, GREIBOSOL KOS can be applied directly due to its excellent chrome stability, where it simultaneously improves the softness and dyeing properties of the leather in a single process step, contributing to the exceptional tactile quality and colour intensity that define premium glove leather.

In the retanning of suede and upper leathers with mineral tanning agents, GREIBOSOL KOS improves the uptake and levelness of anionic dyes throughout the leather structure, producing more brilliant and uniform colour results, while simultaneously improving the grain elasticity of the finished leather — a particularly critical combination of properties for footwear upper and suede articles where both visual and physical performance standards are demanding.

In sandwich dyeing processes, GREIBOSOL KOS is applied between the first and second dyeing stages, where its cationic character deepens the shade and significantly enhances the brilliance and intensity of the final colour, without adverse effects on dyeing levelness or surface quality.

For paste dyeing and finishing applications, GREIBOSOL KOS is applied prior to the bonding agent, where its cationic surface fixation creates a barrier effect that prevents the bonding agent from entering the grain layer and compromising the natural grain surface quality or the adhesion of subsequently applied finish coats.
