Water-insoluble fatliquor

GREIBOSOL K

GREIBOSOL K is a water-insoluble fatliquoring additive based on neatsfoot oil, supplied as a yellow oil at an active substance content of almost 100%. It is specifically designed for use as an additive in combination with a suitable water-soluble fatliquoring agent and is not intended for standalone application. The desired effect on the leather is directly influenced by the quantity used, giving tanners precise control over the final handle and surface character of the finished leather.

Neatsfoot oil is a non-drying natural oil that remains liquid at room temperature due to its composition of glycerides of oleic acid, allowing it to penetrate readily into the leather fibre structure and deliver a characteristic full, well-nourished handle that water-soluble fatliquors alone cannot replicate. The addition of GREIBOSOL K to a water-soluble fatliquor system enables a significant adjustment of the surface lubrication and handle character of the finished leather, from a drier, firmer feel at lower addition levels to a distinctly rich, nourishing handle at higher dosing levels.

GREIBOSOL K imparts a full and well-nourished handle to mineral-tanned and combination-tanned leathers, providing the natural conditioning and lubrication of neatsfoot oil throughout the fibre structure without risk of drying out or hardening of the leather over time. Its excellent light fastness and very good heat resistance make GREIBOSOL K suitable for a broad range of leather types and quality requirements.

GREIBOSOL K should be stirred into the water-soluble fatliquor first, with the exact quantities determined by the required effect, before water at 60°C is added to the mixture under stirring to form the working emulsion.

Application Examples

GREIBOSOL K is the preferred neatsfoot oil additive wherever a natural, full, and well-nourished handle character needs to be added to or enhanced within an existing water-soluble fatliquor system for mineral-tanned and combination-tanned leathers.

In multi-component fatliquor systems for upper leathers, upholstery, and soft leather goods, GREIBOSOL K is incorporated into the water-soluble fatliquor component to enrich the overall handle profile of the finished leather. The surface lubrication effect can be varied across a wide range by adjusting the proportion of GREIBOSOL K within the fatliquor mixture, allowing the tanner to achieve precisely the desired balance between a firm, controlled surface and a rich, well-nourished, natural feel.

For mineral-tanned and combination-tanned leathers where a particularly full and nourishing handle is the target quality, GREIBOSOL K delivers the characteristic conditioning effect of neatsfoot oil — a natural, time-proven fatliquoring raw material — in a form that can be seamlessly integrated into modern multi-component fatliquor emulsion systems without compromising emulsion stability or process consistency.

Method of diluting: GREIBOSOL K should be stirred into the water-soluble fatliquor, the exact quantities depend on the required effect. Water at 60°C should be added by stir ring the mixture.
